Retford
Retford is a historic market town located in the Bassetlaw district in north Nottinghamshire with a population of just over 23,000. Retford is one of the oldest boroughs in England having been documented in the famous Domesday book in 1086. In 1275, the town was granted a royal charter by King Edward I for a market to be held every Thursday thus beginning the town’s heritage as a market trading hub. Retford flourished in the 18th and 19th centuries due to its transport links on the Great North Road, the Chesterfield Canal and the emergence of the railways. Retford’s town square boasts an ornate Victorian Town Hall that is a Grade II listed building and is still the location for markets every weekend to this day.
Aside from the renowned market at the town’s centre (that is still held every weekend to this day), Retford boasts green spaces and picturesque parks. Most notable is Kings Park which opened in 1938 to commemorate the reign of King George V and the Coronation year of King George VI. King’s Park covers around 10 hectares of beautifully maintained formal gardens, grassland and playgrounds and is a source of great local pride, the Bassetlaw council have described the park as the ‘jewel in of the crown’ of the council and has won numerous awards including Britains Best Park and the Green Flag Award.
A beautiful and historic market town full of tradition and local culture, Retford is a great location for a business to immerse itself in.
